In Matthew 5:13–20, Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount by teaching his followers what it means to live as members of God’s family. Because our adoption precedes our instruction, we are called to bear the family resemblance, embrace the story of God’s faithful work, and learn to represent our Father by following his Son.
