What Does Acts 16:31 Mean? Believe in the Lord Jesus and You Will Be Saved
In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson shares his other favorite verse in Acts chapter 16: verse 31. After the jailer asks what he must do to be saved, Paul and Silas reply, believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household. Pastor John explains that a Roman at the time would have thought of sacrifices and rituals, but Paul and Silas say that no payment is needed. The word Lord was used for a master or ruler, so this means believing in Jesus as master of the universe and of your life, and submitting to Him to forgive your sins. Because Paul and Silas had come to Philippi to plant a church, they see this as an opportunity to reach the jailer's whole household and maybe start a house church. Pastor John asks listeners to consider whether God could use them to bring someone in their workplace, neighborhood, or family to salvation and start a movement where they live.
