Where Does Real Joy Come From? The Jailer's Joy After Believing in God (Acts 16:34)
In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson reflects on the revival practices seen in the story of Paul and Silas in Acts chapter 16: decades not days, kingdom prayer, urgent and dependent living, brokenhearted boldness, ongoing repentance, and raising the next generation. In verse 34, the jailer brings Paul and Silas into his home and sets a meal before them, filled with joy because he and his whole household had come to believe in God. Pastor John says joy is a mark of the Holy Spirit and one of our greatest witnesses, alongside the love we have for one another, as Jesus said in John chapter 13. He imagines how the jailer, despite his comfortable life, saw more joy in two beaten prisoners than he had himself. Hope and joy, Pastor John says, are always just one step of faith in God away. He closes with a prayer for everyone on this revival journey, asking the Holy Spirit to be fanned into flame in our lives and fill us with love, joy, and peace.
