Your Worst Failure Isn't the End of Your Story With God (Peter's Charcoal Fire)
In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson reads John 21, where Jesus appears to His discouraged disciples after the resurrection. Peter and the others go fishing and catch nothing all night, echoing the same failed night from when Jesus first called Peter years earlier. Then Jesus calls out from the shore, tells them where to cast their net, and the catch is so large they can barely haul it in. The moment Peter realizes it's Jesus, he doesn't hide in shame, he rushes to get to Him. Pastor Dickerson points out a detail easy to miss: the last time Peter stood near a charcoal fire, he was denying he even knew Jesus. Now Jesus is standing beside another one, cooking him breakfast. Jesus deliberately recreates the scene of Peter's biggest failure, not to shame him, but to turn it into a place of grace. If you've failed God in a way that still haunts you, this episode is a picture of how Jesus meets you there too. Text "DAILY" to 71093 to receive Daily Hope videos sent to your phone every day.
