Without Repentance, There Is No Salvation | Jonathan Edwards

Repentance is one of the most neglected doctrines in modern Christianity, yet Scripture repeatedly declares that it is essential to salvation. In this powerful sermon by Jonathan Edwards, we examine what the Bible actually teaches about genuine repentance—not merely feeling sorry for sin, but a God-worked change of heart that results in turning away from sin and turning to Christ. The introduction explains repentance as a change of mind and heart that leads to renouncing sin rather than continuing in it while expecting heaven. Edwards shows from Scripture that true repentance involves: Hating sin because it is against God. Godly sorrow over personal sin. Humble confession before the Lord. Forsaking sinful practices. Repenting not only in general, but also of specific sins that have dishonored God and harmed others. Jesus Himself warned: "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3) This message is a solemn reminder that the gospel is not merely about forgiveness—it is about transformation through the grace of God.
