Episode 54 and what a show!

The Kettle Zone – Iff and Only If

The Kettle Zone is built around the songwriting of vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player Allan Knox.

The band’s hooky up-tempo debut single ‘Every Other Summer’s Day’ was released in August 2025 and featured drummer Richie Werner, who mixed and mastered the track at Edinburgh’s B & B Studios.

The follow-up single ‘Little by Little’ was released in January 2026 and featured Derek Smith on bass and Andrew Scott on drums. The track also features additional guitars by Jack Davenport, who mixed and mastered the track at The Owl Shed Studios in Edinburgh.

The third single, ‘Iff and Only If’ was released on February 17th, again featuring Richie Werner on drums. Richie also mixed and mastered the track.

The Kettle Zone aim to continue releasing further singles in the near future.

The Kettle Zone’s main influences include XTC, Squeeze and Jellyfish. If up-tempo, guitar-driven power-pop is your thing, keep an ear out for The Kettle Zone in 2026.

The Herron Brothers – The Big Whip Around

Paul and Steven Herron have been making music together their entire lives. Actual brothers whose sound blends melancholy subject matter with unashamedly jangly, harmony-laden pop. Think classic songwriting sensibilities meeting sharp modern commentary.

They follow up December’s Just Another Kick In The Face from The Cool Boys EP, which became their most successful radio single to date, with over 2,000 plays across 200 stations, and praise from Bauer Radio producer Chris Straw for its “contrasting blend of sweet harmonies and angst-filled lyrics.”

“The Big Whip Around” continues that theme. Beneath the infectious hooks and three-part harmonies sits a socially aware core, touching on climate change denial and generational responsibility, wrapped in what the band describe as an “alt-country indie-pop barn singalong,” featuring banjo, Mellotron choir and even Indian tabla.

Influenced by the songwriting craft of Paul Simon, Neil Finn and R.E.M., with shades of McCartney, Crowded House and Wilco, this is melodic, intelligent guitar pop with something to say.
