A university student discovers half of a handwritten notebook page hidden inside the lining of a secondhand coat. The notes describe a secret meeting, a photograph, and a chilling warning: if the writer does not return, what happened was not an accident.

The page is traced to Claire Benton, a woman who vanished in 2009. When the missing half is later found among family belongings, investigators finally reconstruct her plan and uncover a meeting with a property manager she suspected of fraud.

The discovery eventually leads police to Claire’s remains and exposes the truth behind her disappearance. More than evidence of a crime, the torn page becomes proof that Claire expected to come home—and that even a fragment of someone’s final intentions can survive long enough to speak for them.
