The saga of the City of Madison’s failure to count 193 absentee ballots in the November 2024 election continued in court this month. In response to a lawsuit from the firm Law Forward, lawyers for former Madison City Clerk and City of Madison attorneys argued that voting by mail is a privilege, not a right, so the city could not be liable for missing absentee ballots. The claim drew vehement disagreement from, among others, Governor Tony Evers. Alexander Shur has been following this story for Votebeat Wisconsin, and he joins us now by phone.
