Do you have to get out of the car if a Missouri police officer tells you to? If the officer asks you to get out of the car, that's a question, not a command. If it's a question, you're allowed to say, "No, thank you; I don't want to," because it was a question. If the officer orders you out of the vehicle, comply; otherwise, it could escalate. You are allowed to ask, "Do I have to?" The officer may say, "No, you don't." But if they tell you to get out of the vehicle and you ask, "Do I have to?" they're most likely going to say yes. They're going to say yes, because they will investigate you for something other than the traffic stop.
