What are Applications or Apps and the Types: - Application software, causes a computer to perform tasks. - Mobile app, software to run on smartphones and mobile devices. - Web app, software to run within a web browser. There are many categories of Apps within these main choices. You also have those that work on various OS Operating Systems or devices (I.E. Android, Apple, Windows, Linux. Cell Phone, Phablet, Tablet, Laptop, TV or Desktop computer) Some are made to work on some or all and some on only one category. Application for Elders should meet these: - Minimalist design to prevent visual overload. - Large icons that are easy to interpret for function and interaction. - Avoid the use of irrelevant information on the screen. - Color discrimination ability declines with age, so contrast and colors matter. - Clear text instructions including help screens. - Simple navigation structure (I.E. back, forward or Menu buttons). • Provide only features that the elderly users need to accomplish tasks. • Provide feedback when an action is taken. (I.E. animation, sound with button pressing, or a color change on a menu selected. • Limited use of multi-touch gestures or swipes. • Sense of accomplishment when tasks are completed. App Stores): Apple iOS app store Mac OSx app store Google Play Android app store Windows Phone app store Windows app store Amazon app store (includes ALL devices) Roku TV store Boxee TV store – now part of Samsung Apple TV store Linux depends on the distribution.
