TED Podcast Extras – Beddit

Did you know your sleep isn't the same throughout the night? This is a sleep monitor that tracks your sleep. Accurately, without any disturbing wearable sensors. Only a sensor attached to your bed. All you need to do is sleep on the sensor and Beddit takes care of the rest. Works with either Apple iOS or Android apps. App is designed for phones but may work with tablets. Comes in black or white. $150 on web site or $130 on Amazon. Sleep Monitor is based on (BCG)ballistocardiography, a scientific method for measuring cardiorespiratory functions. It detects the tiny signals caused by heartbeat, respiration and movements of the person in bed. Things it measures: - Heart rate - resting rate. Is an important indicator of recovery and stress. - Respiration - breathing frequency and gives you a possibility to follow your stress levels. Tracking your respiration it also knows if you snore during the night. - Sleep cycles - sensing your movements it recognizes the different sleep stages and sleep cycles you go through during the night. - Sleep time - tracks your overall sleep time and recognizes absences from bed, awake periods and periods of restless sleep. Sleep Matters and has a significant effect on your overall wellness. A good night’s sleep improves your working efficiency, reduces stress, boosts your workout and has a positive impact on your relationships. This may help you sleep smarter and is just one of several devices coming out soon to track your sleep. Some lay on your bed like this one and others lay on your bed lengthwise. They all work about the same and work with apps to track patterns. These can be very useful to let you know how your health is doing and whether you need to seek other medical advice.
