The Elder Divide - Labor Day 2015 also known worldwide as: International Workers' Day May Day Labour Day A holiday for everyone and celebrated worldwide on different dates. In the United States, Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. Later made a federal holiday in 1894. In the US it is celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor the labor movement and all works and their contributions to the well being and strength of the nation. Also celebrated in Canada on the same day. Over 80 other countries celebrated it on 1 May and call it International Workers' Day / Labour Day / May Day starting in 1891. Being from the first state to start a Labor Day here in Oregon makes one think as Oregon has been the first in many things. I hope all of you are taking a day of rest from your labors and not just having a annual party or BBQ. Just think as technology improves it allows mankind to pursue other endeavors outside of hard labor. But we must not forget the common laborer as they are still needed to build and produce what technology can dream up. I myself am taking a day of rest from being a caregiver, landscaper and construction worker. These are all hard jobs that I am going to college to better myself and have an easier life. Never forget the laborers who have built where we are today and into the future!!! The US and Canada celebrate on the first Monday of September. New Zealand and some Australian states, observe this day on the first Monday of October. Countries where there is an official holiday on 1st May for International Workers' or Labour Day.
