01-15-17 – “The Woman, the Dragon, and the Child” – (Revelation 12) Revelation 12:1-17 NIV – 12 A great sign appeared in heaven: (Flash Back) a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. 4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. Who is the Woman? What is that symbolic of? * Church? It can’t be the Church as the Church didn’t birth Jesus. The Church is a by-product of Christ! * Mary? It could be Mary as she did flee into Eygpt with Joseph & Jesus however, they were not in Egypt more than 2 years and this says for 3.5 years. * Nation of Israel? * In the Old Test. the Nation of Israel is referred to as a woman and God’s wife. (Isaiah 54; Jer. 3; Hos. 2; Ezek. 16 ) * And, the image of the Sun, Moon and Stars lines up with a dream Joseph had in Genesis 37:9-11 – The Sun and Moon representing Joseph’s parents and the 12 stars are the 12 sons of Jacob, who later became the 12 Tribes of Israel. Most likely, it’s the Nation of Israel. Rev. 12:3-4 NIV – 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. 4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. There is no mistaking this sign… The Dragon is the devil. The “great” serpent, the devil. (Gen. 3:1) * Lucifer – Shining one, morning star, light bearer. (Before his fall) * Devil – to slander or separate * Satan – Adversary * Accuser * Evil one * Tempter * The prince of demons * The god of this age * The prince of this world * The ruler of the kingdom of the air * The spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. The heads, horns and crowns are the worldly rulers and authorities he controls. (This lines up with Daniel’s vision in Dan. 7:7-8) Satan is the power behind those earthly rulers and the evil. ANYTHING that’s opposed to God… Satan is behind it! He swept away 1/3 of the stars (fallen angels) of heaven and threw them to the earth. Angels who chose to go with Lucifier rather than stay with God! Isa. 14:12-17; Ezek. 28:12-14 – The Dragon (Satan) stood in front of the woman to devour her child. Satan has tried everything possible to try stop God’s Promise and Plan of Restoration. It started after the Garden! Gen. 3:15, God said, “… One of her descendants will crush your head, and you will bite his heel.” Satan started… * Cain killing Able… * The wickedness of the people in Noah’s day was so great that God regretted that He ever made man and it grieved His heart. (Gen. 6:6) He destroys the world except for Noah and 7 others. * Abraham would be the Nation through which the Messiah would come… However, Sara couldn’t get pregnant. (Think satan had anything to do with that?) * The Same thing happened with Isaac and Rebecca. * In 2 Chronicles all the Royal house of Judah was destro...
