02-12-17 – “Babylon the Great – The Mother of all Evil!” (Revelation 17) - Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville

Revelation 17 – The Mother of all Evil – Babylon the Great Galatians 6:7-9 NLT – Don’t be misled–you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Chapter 16, we were back in the “action” with the Seven Plagues or Bowl Judgments…  Rapid, consecutive, and final judgments of God on the Dragon, the Antichrist, the False Prophet and the people of the world who’ve rejected God.  These final plagues led into the Battle of Armageddon where Jesus conquers and defeats Satan, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet. Satan, the Antichrist, the False Prophet and all who follow him are reaping what they’ve sown.   Here in Revelation 17, 18 we have another interlude or pause in the action as God allows an Angel to share in more details about Babylon the Great. Revelation 17:1-2 NIV – One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters.  2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.” Hold that thought and let’s go back in time…  Go back to the days after the flood.  Things had become so immoral and sinful God wished He had never made man.  He decides to flood the earth and destroy all of mankind, only Noah and his family were saved.  8 people… Gen. 6:5-8 NLT – The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing–all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the LORD.   After the flood they were told by God to be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. (Gen. 9:1)  However, they didn’t do that. Genesis 11:1-9 – At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. 2 As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. 3 They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) 4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” 5 But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building. 6 “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! 7 Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.” 8 In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why the city was called Babel, [confusion] because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world. They congregate to one area… decide to build a tower in honor of who?   “Themselves!”   They use bricks and tar (to keep water out) they didn’t believe God when He said he would never again flood the earth.  They didn’t trust Him.
