04-02-17 – Surrender… Last week, I shared that most people are looking for Happiness… to fill the emptiness or the void in their heart, soul. And most try to fill it with things in the world, of the world. It NEVER satisfies because you can’t fill something that can only be filled by God himself! Our JOY, Real Happiness was lost in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned. (The Relationship was broken!) Real Happiness doesn’t take place unless the Relationship with God is restored… and that only happens through Christ. It’s the Right Relationship with Him… Living a life of Faith in Him (Thru Truth and Obedience to His Word) we fill the void and emptiness and experience REAL HAPPINESS and JOY! The Thermostat is set! I wanted to share that last week before this week’s topic of Surrender because the Devil deceives and lies to us so much and many times we buy into it and believe it! IF we don’t expose the lie… we may NOT see the TRUTH! What does it mean to Surrender? What is Surrender? Definition: * “To yield to the power, control or passion of another upon compulsion or demand.” * “To give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another.” * “To give oneself up into the power of another” Surrender is NOT giving up my language, my emotions, bad habits… my things. What are we giving up? Ourselves! Surrender means I give up all rights… I cease resisting and submit…. to an authority, power greater than ourselves. I give up My WILL, My WAY… Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that seems right to a man but that way leads to death. There’s no such thing as “partial” surrender! We’re either surrendered or we aren’t! We’re either all in or we aren’t! We can be compliant and still not be surrendered! That’s Religion! When we Surrender it means we give up all our rights to ourselves. We absolutely, completely yield to the authority of Christ in every area of our life. Spiritually, Mentally, Emotionally and Physically. It means Jesus Christ owns me. Romans 12:1-2 NCV – So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship. 2 Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. The Battle of Surrender isn’t external, it’s internal! It’s a battle of the will! Who will I surrender to? Galatians 2:20-21 NIV – 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” John 15:5-11 NLT – 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. 9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy.
