Surrender Part 2 – 04-09-17 Surrender? We been conditioned to believe Surrender is bad… when in fact it’s the best thing (only thing) we can do to be where God wants us to be to become what He wants us to be! What does it mean to be surrendered? It means to give up my language, my emotions, my stuff, my attitude, my good works! NO! God wants me… ALL OF ME! Does God own the house… letting me live as His servant… or is the Title still in MY NAME… It’s MY PLACE and Jesus is my roommate or my guest? Galatians 2:20 NLT – My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. It’s through Surrender that we receive the power (Holy Spirit) and performance (Abundant life in Christ!) Think about your motorcycle… What IS the power and performance of your motorcycle? (Battery, Exhaust, Fuel Mgmt system, Handlebars, Paint job!) It’s the Engine! If your engine isn’t set up properly and running right you have no power… you have no performance and it’s extremely frustrating! Where’s the JOY in that? Do you want your Engine running at optimum Power and Performance? So, Spiritually… How does this apply to us? What’s our engine? Proverbs 4:23 NLT – Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. NIV – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Our heart is the engine of our life… It’s the inner man, the soul of a man… Our heart controls our will, our wants, and our ways. Everything we do, say, think, etc… is generated and comes from the Heart. Matt. 15:19 NLT – For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. Ezekiel 36:26 ESV – And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Matt. 22:37 NIV – Love the Lord your God with all your heart… Our ENGINE (the Heart) is where the Power and our Performance comes from! It’s important that we understand that… Diagram: V-Twin Motor and how it works. Suck – “Intake.” Spiritually: So we’re only as good as what we’re putting into our Heart? * Fuel = God and His Word. * Air = Our Obedience to it! Bang – “Squeeze and Compression” Spiritually: IF we’re Surrendered to God’s design and specs… * Christ (the Fire), Fuel (God’s Word), Air (Obedience to God’s Word)… * When those are compressed it creates Tremendous Power (BANG!) * If NOT set up right there’s a bang but it can damage us, our lives and those around us! Blow – “Exhaust or Performance” Spiritually: The result of the Power which is the Abundant life in Christ in our life! * Sacrifice, Service and Sharing our Faith! It’s a Constant Cycle… Adjustments need to be made from time to time to ensure it is within spec. IF we’re SURRENDERED to God’s design and God’s set up of the Engine of our heart there is tremendous POWER and PERFORMANCE!
