04-30-17 – “How To Live a Surrendered Life” By: JD Tew RECAP… What does it mean to Surrender? It’s giving myself to God. God owns me. Not part of me, He owns all of me! The first thing He does is… Install a new heart! It’s not a “restored” improved heart… A NEW HEART! John 3:3 – Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” Not a physical birth, but a spiritual birth that comes in and thru Jesus Christ! Ezekiel 36:26 NLT – And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. We surrender receive a new heart… we surrender our life for His life in us… to become HIS and live for Him! Galatians 2:20 – My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 2 Corinthians 5:15-20 NLT – 15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. How do we LIVE for Christ once we receive this New Heart? Paul tell us… Romans 12:1-2 CSB – Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present (offer) your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. With this NEW HEART we LIVE a life of Sacrifice! What does it mean to Sacrifice? Defined: It means to surrender something as an offering to God. We’re all accustomed to making sacrifices. * Parents sacrificing their wants and desires in order to give their kids a better life… * We sacrifice certain foods for better health. * We sacrifice for all kind of things… to buy a motorcycle… or parts! However, Spiritually, I think we’ve reduced Sacrifice to “Time and Money.” * I sacrifice my “time” for God… to Study God’s Word, to Pray, to Serve. * I sacrifice by giving my “money” to the Church… or some cause that honors God. IS that what it really means to LIVE For Christ and be a LIVING SACRIFICE? One that’s HOLY and pleasing to God! People who don’t even know Christ sacrifice their time and money for a good cause? * Are they a Living for Christ? * Are they Holy and Pleasing to God? What does it mean to be a Living Sacrifice? We present ourselves to God and refuse to conform to the world, the pattern of the world… We become a Living Sacrifice that’s Holy and Pleasing to God. 1 John 2:15-17 NIV- 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life —comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. God doesn’t tell us to give up things for the sake of giving things up… He wants us to give them up for the only thing that is worth having, the only thing worth living for… which is HIS SPIRIT and the Abundant Life of Christ in us!
