Serving God – Part 3. Serving Others! Why do we Serve? If we’re Surrendered to Christ, if we’re willing to Sacrifice our life for Him… then we belong to Him, we are not Servants or Volunteers… We’re His Slaves and it’s out DUTY to SERVE the Master! How can we Serve? * Passionately! * We can Serve God most effectively with our S.H.A.P.E * S – Spiritual Gifts * H – Hearts Desire * A – Abilities * P – Personality * E – Experiences We don’t use our SHAPE for ourselves, to serve ourselves… We Serve Christ as we Serve others! Author Jim George said, “There is no impact without contact.” To SERVE effectively (the way Jesus wants us to SERVE) we have to be involved, engaged, and connected with PEOPLE! Matthew 4:19 – Jesus said, Follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men. The Message (Follow Me); The Method (Being made by Christ); The Motive (A Fisher of Men.) There are two primary groups we Serve or Minister to. * The Body of Christ. Romans 12:10-11 NIV – 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 1 Peter 4:10 NLT – 10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Galatians 5:13-14 NLT – 13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law (Bible) can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The Church will never be what it’s supposed to be unless we learn how to serve one another. If we can’t minister to and serve one another in love… How in the world are we going to reach the lost? * The World or the Lost! Those who don’t have a “relationship” with Jesus Christ. Matthew 20:27-28 NCV – 7 Whoever wants to become first among you must serve the rest of you like a slave. 28 In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many people.” Romans 5:8 NLT – 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (John 3:16… For God so loved the World…) Acts 1:8 NLT – 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The world is full of people who don’t know Christ and for many the only thing that will change their mind and heart toward Him is when they see people who are Surrendered to Him, Sacrificing for Him and Serving Him! It’s in our SERVICE where they see the Surrender and Sacrifice. Before we just “dive-in” there are some things we need to do that will help us be more effective. * Pray: Pray for Wisdom, Discernment, Guidance, Strength, Endurance. Proverbs 3:5-7 NIV – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. James 1:5-6 NLT – 5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.
