12-31-17 – The Gospel of John – John 1:1-18 – God With Us! - Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville

The Gospel of John…   John 1:1-18 * Do you want a better understanding of who Jesus is? * An in-depth look at Jesus Life, Ministry, Message, Death and Resurrection… from an eyewitness, someone who was there through it all? * To confirm and secure your Faith in Jesus? * Maybe you’re still searching for Spiritual Truth? And you want to know what Truth is? * To confirm that Jesus is the Son of God, and God. * Are you hungry, thirsty for greater spiritual knowledge and understanding of Christ to be like Christ?   I don’t think any other book of the Bible has more focus on Jesus and those things listed than the Gospel of John.   John 20:30-31 NIV – 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe (continue believing) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.   That’s a great motivator for going through the Gospel of John and a great resolution for each of us in 2018… That we may believe, (continue believing) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that by believing we may have life in His name!   Who was John: * Son of Zebedee. Younger brother of James. * Family owned and operated a Fishing business.  Partners with Peter and Andrew. * Disciple of John the Baptist. * Became a Faithful Disciple of Jesus. Part of the Inner Circle…  (Peter, James and John.) * Became a “Pillar” of the early Church. * The Gospel of John was written somewhere between 90-95 AD, only 50 years after the events of Jesus crucifixion. He also wrote 1, 2, 3 John, and the Book of Revelation. * The last of the Disciples to die, was not martyred, died of old age in Ephesus, modern day Turkey.     Verse 1-5 is a Prologue or an Introduction… John is basically laying the foundation for the book of John.   Everything He will share with us about the Life, Ministry, Message, Death and Resurrection of Jesus can be traced back to this introduction.     John 1:1-18 NIV – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.  3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.   4 Main points: * The Word is Eternal.
