02-23-2020 – 1 Peter 2:1-3 “Craving God and His Word” – JD Tew

“CRAVING GOD AND HIS WORD!” 1 Peter 1:22-25 - 1 Peter 2: 1-3 - 22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.  23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.  24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.”  (In other words, Life is short here on earth but we have eternal life with Christ!) And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. 1 Peter 2:1-3 – So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. 2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3 now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.   Get rid of, lay aside all evil behavior…    Deceit – Satan is the Father of all deceit and lying. Hypocrisy –  Pretending to be something we aren’t.  The first place we need to be REAL is with God!  If Vertical is right the Horizontal is right! Jealousy –  How many people waste a life or lifetime of wanting what they don’t have…  Envious of others, and discontented with their life. Unkind speech.  Our words indicate what’s going on in our head and our heart. Our words are life or death. (Prov. 18:21).  We’re either building up or tearing down... (Eph 4:29) Keep in mind what Peter just shared in Chapter 1.  “God said, Be Holy because I am Holy!”  IF you’re mine, then LIVE like you’re mine and separate yourselves from the world!  OBEY ME and MY WORD and LOVE THE BROTHERHOOD!    Peter gives us specific and clear direction on how we make that happen…  Vs. 2-3 2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3 now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.   The POWER of God’s Word!  2 Timothy 3:16-17- All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. Hebrews 4:12-13 - 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.   Like Newborn babies…  New born babies desire 2 things, Hold me & Feed me.  And the reason I want you to hold me is so you can feed me! Babies don’t care about Time… Location… Toys… Teddy Bears… Playing…  Blankets… Surroundings… Naps… People…  even Grandma!   All they want is MILK!  FEED ME!   THEY CRAVE IT… (Crave = Deep powerful desire, yearning, longing… aching for something.)  You ever CRAVED anything?      Peter didn’t say to CRAVE just anything… but “PURE SPIRITUAL MILK.” We can’t fill out heart, mind, soul, body with “anything” and expect to be NOURISHED and GROW!  The ONLY THING that nourishes and satisfies our soul is the Word of God!  EVERYTHING ELSE STUNTS, & PROHIBITS OUR GROWTH!     IF we aren’t feeding on God, God’s Word, & Jesus Christ DAILY,
