“Living Stones” in God’s Temple! 1 Peter 2:4-12 - 4 You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. 5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. (Priesthood) Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. 6 As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” (Isaiah 28:16) 7 Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22) 8 And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” (Isaiah 8:14) They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. 9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, (Royal Priesthood) a holy nation, (A peculiar people) God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 10 “Once you had no identity as a people;now you are God’s people.Once you received no mercy;now you have received God’s mercy.” 11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world. * Jesus Christ is THE Cornerstone of God’s Temple. The Cornerstone of our Salvation and Eternal Life! Vs. 4 - 4 You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. When you start to build something you start with a Foundation… or at least a blueprint. (Motorcycle it’s the Frame. Everything is attached to the frame.) Everything is built upon or based on that Cornerstone or Blueprint. JESUS is the Cornerstone of God’s Temple, of Worship of our Faith! Cornerstone = To set all the angles. Isaiah 28:16-17 - “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes (faith in… trust and obedience) need never be shaken. 1 John 2:2 - 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins (Atone = to do something to make things right) —and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1 Corinthians 3:11 - 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. God’s Plan of Salvation in Jesus Christ was rejected by people but chosen by God for great honor! Phil 2:6-11 - Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges (emptied himself); he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. WHAT IS THE CORNERSTONE OR BLUEPRINT OF OUR LIFE? DOES EVERY ANGLE OF OUR LIFE POINT TO JESUS?
