2 Peter 2:1-22 – False Teachers and False Teaching. 2 Peter 2:1-9 - But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. (Slandered) 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. 4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. Wherever the Truth of Jesus Christ is found Satan will have someone there to deceive! He lies and deceives to get us to doubt God, (to doubt God’s heart, character & integrity) to get us to reject and deny God, God’s Promises, and Jesus Christ. (Satan and Adam & Eve… Gen. 3) These False Teachers secretly introduce opinions and beliefs that contradict and are contrary to God and God’s Word. Just enough Truth mixed in with the lies to make it sound convincing but it’s not of God. They say they’re following Christ, they have an outward appearance of that… but they aren’t! They’re following their own way, have their own motive, agenda with perverted Character and Conduct. Because of what they say and do, God’s word is slandered. People begin to have a low view of Christ and God’s Word. In their greed they exploit and they deceive. Satan is the source of all False Teachers and False Teaching… But He uses people to do his dirty work. He finds people tempted by their own desires… someone who will manipulate God’s word to do what they want to do, to have what they think they should have, or to satisfy themselves when all along they’re satisfying satan! Matthew 7:15-20 - 15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. Acts 20:28-30 – (Paul to the Ephesian Elders/Pastors) 28 “So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders. 29 I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. 30 Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. Paul described the False Apostles he dealt with in Corinth. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 - 13 These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised!
