Pentecost Sunday

This week is the day in the church calendar known as Pentecost Sunday, so we are breaking from Acts to talk about the coming of the Holy Spirit, from John 14:15-27. Here Jesus tells the disciples that even though he is going away, he will still be with them. They will be given another Helper – the very Spirit of Jesus, who will be with them and in them. And Jesus mentions three functions the Holy Spirit will perform for the church: the Spirit enlivens heart-level obedience, teaches us what is true, and provides real intimacy with God.
