Forgiveness is easy in theory—but agonising when the debt has a face.

In Part 2 of our 70x7: Forgiven to Forgive series, we explore Jesus’ parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:21–35 and discover how to begin releasing the debts others owe us.

Because God has released our debt, we can release theirs into His hands.

In this message, we consider five practical movements of forgiveness:

  1. Remember how much God has forgiven you.
  2. Name the wound, grieve the loss and identify the debt.
  3. Release your right to make them pay.
  4. Pray for them and bless them.
  5. Keep choosing forgiveness as God heals your heart.

Forgiveness does not mean pretending the wound was imaginary, calling evil good or abandoning justice and wise boundaries. It means surrendering personal revenge and entrusting the debt to God.

Forgiveness takes one; reconciliation takes two. You can forgive while still pursuing truth, accountability and appropriate boundaries.

Bottom line: Because God has released my debt, I can release theirs into His hands.
