29. The Science of Friendship

In a recent episode, we heard from listeners what friendship means to them. It's obvious that friendship is vitally important to us -- and science has proven it can improve our mental and physical health, and actually increase our longevity.

Yet, many of us are finding our friendships are fading away, for many reasons. As we age, more and more of our friends are passing away. Especially when they were some of our best friends, people we counted on for support in rough times, people who we have known since childhood, their loss can leave a big hole in our happiness.

Many of us find ourselves falling out of touch with today's rapidly changing world. The solution may be to find some friends younger than us -- who can help us catch up, provide support when we need it -- and for whom we can pass along our experience and wisdom.

But how? Our guest is one of our country's leading experts on friendship, Dr. Rebecca Adams. She has some answers and great advice for keeping our friendships alive, and making new friends. It's a conversation you won't want to miss.
