Out of Bounds – E267 – #LIFEISJORT with Ripton and Elliot Wilkinson-Ray
Hello, hello, hello and welcome back to a brand-new episode of The Out Of Bounds podcast, right here on The Out of Collective Network. This week on the program our guest Elliot Wilkinson-Ray, the founder of Ripton, the performance denim company.
The long and shorts of it, is that Ripton started by selling jorts out of Elliot’s studio apartment. Now three years in, he has a full-fledged micro-business on his hands and a unique and emerging brand in the denim space. Elliot explains his inspiration for creating a space for Ripton in today’s outdoor culture, why that resonates with customers and how being “dumb on purpose” sells. He and Adam discuss the surf skate influence Ripton has transferred to the bike game these days and an overall trend for everyone to take themselves less serious and express themselves in a more authentic way. Adam and Elliot also compare notes on the challenges of both the creative and business sides of growing a new enterprise. A common thread seems to be how important it is to learn every detail, and then let someone who knows what they’re doing, do it better. They both also admit to struggling to find the balance between having fun and making money. Listen now to really get to know Elliot and learn mor about everything going on at Ripton and what is to come in the weeks and months ahead. As always do not forget you can also find this interview and so much more on our YouTube channel, so be sure to like and subscribe.
