With Orbog's staged assassination only hours away, the party works through the final details of their dangerous plan while debating how best to outwit both Lolth and the Thieves' Guild. An unexpected conversation with Emryn's family sends them on a detour to visit her eccentric brother Ethan, whose paranoid worldview seems absurd—until one of his wild conspiracies proves disturbingly accurate.

As the group searches for allies they can trust, they uncover a small resistance movement hidden within Northern Towerfall and gain a potential safe haven for the battles still to come. With preparations complete and new questions surrounding King Valt's rule, the party edges ever closer to the moment they must fake the death of a king.
