Something a little different for episode 50 where I interview Ibarionex Perello, host of the incredibly successful and inspirational podcast; The Candid Frame. Ibarionex is a talented photographer who has built up a varied income stream to find photography business success without shooting. Not shooting directly for paying clients anyway, better than that, he gets to shoot what he wants.
In this interview, Ibarionex talks about getting published, having multiple income streams and the importance of building a way to get your work out there for people to discover. Once you’re known and your network grows, so do your opportunities.
Here’s some more of what we cover:- Generating an income from a love of photography without shooting
- Having and maintaining different streams of income
- Where to get published as a photographer
- How to get started as a writer of photography
- Teaching and mentoring photographers as a business
- Shooting what and how you like to create photography articles you want to write
- The importance of getting your work out there – no matter your focus
- Why you need to be spending more time on marketing than shooting if you want to succeed in generating an income
- Learning from and interviewing the worlds best photographers
- Once you are “known” doors will open but it takes effort and time
- Why you need to have a love of teaching before you think about making an income from workshops
- Is tackling a photography book with in your range?
- Strategies to get started writing your first book or article on photography
- Is starting your own podcast a good marketing idea for you?
- The fear and anxiety that every creative feels at certain times… no matter how successful
If you haven’t listened to The Candid Frame, be sure to check it out. The podcast is interview based and Ibarionex dives deep into the lives, thought processes and philosophies of photographers from all round the world. I guarantee you’ll come away feeling inspired to shoot and comfortable in the knowledge that other creatives go through the same feelings you do in their photography lives.
A great place to start, as Ibarionex mentioned, is episode 200 which you can find by:Â clicking here.

What’s on OfferThis week for Premium Members, I’m making available my portrait agreement or contract that I use immediately after every shoot. The agreement is as simple as possible and easily understandable by clients but clearly states that the copyright of all photos taken during the shoot are the property of the photographer or studio.
The file is in PSD format and fully customisable to you and your studio if you wish to use some or all of it.
In Australia, as the law currently stands, if a photographer is commissioned to do a shoot, the copyright is automatically assigned to the person who commissioned the shoot – in the case of a portrait session, the clients. Unless you have a signed agreement to the contrary stating that the client is signing copyright over to the photographer.
I have a few more points in my agreement as you can see below, all of which you can modify as you wish.
Head over to the Members area to download the agreement.
