Submitting to the Government

Posted September 2, 2021

How does the Bible counsel us to live well under government authority if we lack confidence in that government, or feel that they’re abusive of their authority? Fortunately for us, this is not a new issue for Christians. We will look at Jesus’ advice to “give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what is God’s” as well as Paul’s interpretation of this in Romans 13. We will also look at a few steps we can take now as we navigate the unity of the church which threatens to be divided over vaccination status and other potential restrictions this fall.

Die On The Right Hill

Posted August 26, 2021

Unless we understand Christ as our “Cornerstone” we will always choose the wrong hill to die on, and these days there are plenty of hills to choose from. Thank you for joining us for this sermon as we look at Jesus’ Parable of the Tenants from Luke 20 and the significance this teaching has on the early church and for us today. May we choose our hills wisely!

Reconciliation and God’s Judgment

Posted June 26, 2021

Learning to trust in God’s judgment has a profound effect on how we respond when we are hurt by others. The recent discovery of the unmarked graves of children in the residential schools has surfaced new, painful emotions for us as a nation, and especially for those victims of the residential schools. Locally, we are grieving the tragic loss of Saint Ann’s parish as well as the other parishes recently burned throughout the Okanagan. How do we respond to these hurts in a way that honors God? Our passage today deals with how we can short circuit the cycle of violence and vengeance by understanding God’s coming judgment, and how it allows us to pursue love and peace with our neighbors when it matters most.

On a Religion of Gratitude

Posted June 20, 2021

We’re looking at how to respond to God’s grace with a religion of gratitude. This looks a lot different than what we’ve come to expect of religion in North America, and it may just be the key to reclaiming the “religion that our Father accepts as pure and faultless.” (see James 1:27).

Forgiveness

Posted June 12, 2021

Everybody deals with forgiveness, and the majority of us have people in our lives that are really difficult to forgive. Most of us are aware that the Bible calls us to forgiveness, but can we actually forgive? This teaching of Jesus’ from Luke 17 begins to reveal how we as Christians can move forward into really difficult forgiveness.
