San Luis Obispo County politics gets personal on this episode of Up+Adam as Adam Montiel sits down with District 4 County Supervisor candidate Adam Verdin for a conversation that goes far beyond campaign mailers and party labels.
Verdin opens up about what pushed him into the race against incumbent Jimmy Paulding, the emotional reality of running for office for the first time, and why he believes local government should operate with more common sense and less political tribalism. From owning Old Juan’s Cantina and flying professionally as a pilot, to navigating campaign controversies, endorsements, and “dark money” headlines, this episode digs into the human side of public service.
Adam and Adam also tackle some of the biggest issues facing the Central Coast right now, including homelessness, affordable housing, Diablo Canyon, workforce struggles, economic pressure on middle-class families, and whether young people can realistically build a future in SLO County anymore. There’s humor, tension, vulnerability, and a few moments where the conversation feels more like neighbors talking than politicians debating.
Whether you’re deeply political, politically exhausted, or just trying to understand the future of the SLO CAL, this is one of those conversations built to make you think a little deeper.
