What if the most unforgettable show you'll ever see is one you never would have thought to buy a ticket for? We're continuing our partnership with the City of San Luis Obispo celebrating ARTober, and this time, Adam Montiel welcomes back Molly Clark, Director of Cal Poly Arts, for a conversation about creativity, curiosity, and the incredible power of experiencing something unexpected.
Molly takes us behind the curtain of bringing world-class performances to the Central Coast, including the night singer Carla Morrison attracted a sold-out audience where 80% had never been inside the venue before. We explore the courage it takes to champion unfamiliar artists, why algorithms may be robbing us of the joy of discovery, and how live performance can connect our little corner of California to the rest of the world.
Plus, Molly shares stories from her recent arts-scouting adventure in South Korea, gives us a taste of what's coming to the Cal Poly Arts stage, from Australian contemporary circus to Korean musical collaborations, and reveals her other life spinning R&B, soul, funk, and guilty-pleasure pop as DJ Momo. It's a celebration of the arts, the people who make them possible, and the beautiful reminder that sometimes the best thing we can do is show up for something we know absolutely nothing about.
