Risk Group Founder, Jayshree Pandya Ph.D discusses “ The Internet of Things and Cyber-Security: Government Readiness” with Chuck Brooks, Advisor, Technology Partner Network, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on Risk Roundup. Introduction Along with the ever-changing definition and nature of computing and computers, the continued evolution toward cheaper processors, faster networks and broadening horizons has made possible a shift from desktop, to laptop, to mobile phones, and now everyday connected objects, called “The Internet of Things” (IoT). As, almost any physical device can now be Internet-enabled, linking it to additional computing power and analytic capabilities that make it “smart”, billions of physical devices are expected to join the global digital network in the coming years. This brings a number of opportunities as well as risks for each nation: its governments, industries, organizations, academia and individuals. Nations and its Governments that adopt a wait-and-see attitude toward the IoT are unlikely to develop the expertise they need to govern in a digital global age, nor will they stimulate the trust needed to effectively and efficiently deliver services and to reassure concerned citizens about how IoT will affect them. This undoubtedly will have huge impact! Copyright Risk Group LLC. All Rights Reserved
