SCH 120 Eight Hacks to Help You Improve Your Mental Self-Care Quotient with a Hobby

Did you know you can improve your mental self-care quotient with a hobby? In today’s podcast, you’ll learn about the importance of hobbies for keeping our lives balanced.

What IS a Mental Self-Care Quotient?

We’ve all heard about IQ tests (intelligence quotient tests) and how Elon Must has an IQ of around 155 and Terence Tao of Australia has an IQ of 230. But a high IQ doesn’t mean you’ll have a great life. Money can’t buy you love, and a high IQ can’t buy you happiness. Plenty of successful and happy people have average or below-average IQs.

Success doesn’t lie in having an off-the-charts IQ. Having a high EQ (emotional intelligence quotient) helps. Happy, productive people learn how to sustain their productivity through self-care. Many of us bought into the myth of superwoman at the expense of our health and sanity. God didn’t create us to run ourselves ragged and burn out. He even gave us a weekly day to rest!

We must take care of all four aspects of ourselves–mental, academic/artistic, physical, and spiritual. A person who learns how to care of themselves has a high SCQ (self-care quotient). This month we’ll explore each of the four aspects of our SCQ, starting with our mental self-care quotient. I’ll share actionable ways a hobby can improve your mental self-care quotient.

I’d love to hear which of your hobbies brings calm to your mind.
