Expectations of the Christian Life

What should committed disciples of Jesus Christ expect out of this life? Well, these days that often depends on which Christian teacher you follow. If you follow a pastor or teacher who preaches the "prosperity gospel" your expectations might be great health, tremendous wealth and a life without problems. If you follow a pastor who is constantly reminding you just how depraved and wicked you are--even after God's saving grace--well you probably expect nothing but a life of misery and constant chastisement from God. The truth of the life followers of Jesus Christ should expect is of course contained in God's Word--the only source for eternal truth. This morning we search the scriptures to get a picture of what the life of a true Christian should look like, and what reasonable expectations are for our lives in a fallen world.
