The Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance published its second 5G White Paper this summer. Coming five years after their first paper on 5G, the new NGMN warns against fragmentation, and urges further adoption of global standard in order to realize the full benefits of virtualization, cloud, and edge computing. In this podcast, Javan Erfanian, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Bell Canada and co-editor of the 5G White Paper 2 and Nick Sampson, Director of Wireless Access and Core Network Standardisation at Orange and co-editor of the 5G White Paper discuss their findings. 5G is much more than a better way to deliver mobility services. The new technology will likely change the way we work, consume and recreate. 5G will enable the further development of AI, machine learning and much more, with consequences that reach far beyond the devices 5G will initially interact with. Erfanian and Sampson share their findings, discuss their recommendations and hint at the impact on the future. The changes coming might be as large, or larger, than those experienced during the industrial revolution.
