The benefits of the circular economy for telcos, Podcast

“There is an alternative, here”

Every telecom operator has embraced the circular economy when it comes to the phone, according to Darren Pearce, Group CEO of TXO. Now the operator is absorbing that idea for the networking gear. Pearce tells us that now sales on the networking side of equipment that was previously in use, is becoming proactive. People are seeking out gear in the circular economy for both the end points and the networks in between. In this podcast we learn about the benefits that telcos obtain by sourcing a company such as TXO to get needed network gear. Over the past three years, TXO has become a routine source. We also learn how TXO is a company that smaller operators are finding both stock and price benefits from. “We are definitely seeing an influx of small operators who see our market as an alternative to the OEM,” says Pearce. One of the inventive services TXO provides equipment needy customers is what TXO calls “proactive mining”. The company will actively poll customers to see if a server, or part or product is not being used somewhere, and that it might be put back in use with a new customer. “It’s a bit like a dating game”, according to Pearce. We also learn that the modern secondary market is not about moving “hand me downs” from the first world economy to the developing world. Products coming off use, in the developed world, typically are “rehomed” somewhere else in the developed economies. “You will see this industry boom,” says Pearce, predicting that changing attitudes among both customers and investors are changing the way people view the secondary market. Investors are demanding companies go green and source companies such as TXO.
