The promise of 5G to deliver services, economic development, and human services, such as health care, is a major focus for the carriers who serve a large part of the US, and their association, the Competitive Carriers Association, the CCA. In this podcast, Tim Donovan. SVP, Legislative Affairs at Competitive Carriers Association, discusses how 5G will bring major changes for the carriers and to the communities they serve. In this podcast we learn how CCA members are closing the digital divide and how the CCA is working to make sure that as “5G is hitting its stride,” that 5G remains accessible to people outside the major urban centers.
Donovan, who will become president and CEO of the CCA, discusses the transformational legacy of outgoing president Steve Berry. Berry raised the profile of the association and led many successful efforts to make sure markets remained competitive. Donovan outlines how significant federal funding will be impacting the adoption of newer technologies and how critical upcoming spectrum auctions are to make sure the promise of 5G is delivered to many consumers and businesses. “That’s in our DNA,” says Donovan. “The true connecting tissue of our members, is exactly that, the focus on competition and making sure there’s that option for consumers in the market.”
