The Press Box: Seg. 6 – NBC Sports’ Kenny Rice Previews Kentucky Derby

Kenny Rice, an American sportscaster known nationally for his horse racing reporting with NBC, came on the Hollywood Casino Press Box to preview Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Here are some excerpts: On this year’s Derby: “This is probably the best betting Derby, the most wide open Derby in the last four or five years. Nyquist is undefeated, but there’s a group right behind him that could pull it off and it wouldn’t be a surprise.” How often do undefeated horses win the Derby? “It’s tough to see. Smarty Jones did it in 2004. That’s one of the questions about Nyquist. Insiders think he’s going to lose…like maybe he doesn’t have that extra gear. I think he’s really good. He probably grinds it out a little more than American Pharaoh did. I’m giving him a slight nod here to win it, though I think there are like three right behind him who could win.” Listen to the segment here:
