Blues announcer Chris Kerber talks “fantastic” penalty kill, offense’s lack of scoring

Blues radio play-by-play broadcaster Chris Kerber joined The Hollywood Casino Press Box on Monday to discuss several topics surrounding the Blues ahead of its game against the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden. Listen to the interview and read some excerpts below: On the Blues’ impressive penalty kill so far this season: “They’ve only allowed one power play goal (since the first game of the season against the Blackhawks). The penalty kill is up over 90 percent. That’s not realistically sustainable…but the penalty kill has been fantastic. Alex Pietrangelo really should be getting a lot more notoriety for his ability to clear the puck out.” Who has stood out to you so far that’s not necessarily showing up on the stat sheet? “I think Patrick Berglund fits that bill. People always want to see more production from him…but I think you see exactly what you have, which is a really good, strong third line center. I think he’s had a really good start to the year.” Are you concerned about the Blues’ lack of scoring of late? “I’d be more concerned if they were scoring only one goal a game and not getting the chances. The Blues are getting the chances. They could’ve pumped in five goals in each of the past couple games. They’re at least getting those chances. But at the same time…I think guys have to bear down and work harder to score. I think guys in the NHL – not just the Blues – I don’t think there’s enough bearing down on pucks right in front of the net.”
