Their fourth line can be as dangerous as anybody they have. The top six are incredibly dynamic. Their defensemen will get into the rush. If the Blues aren’t ready to defend as a five-man unit…it’ll be a real challenge.” On Jake Allen back in net as the starter: “I know he needs to get on a roll…and I’m confident he’s going to get on a roll and get going here. I think a lot’s been going on in his life. I think people remember the last goal that goes in…It wasn’t long ago the Blues (beat the Blackhawks in the Winter Classic game). Since then…he had a baby girl for the first time. I’m looking forward to seeing him get back at it.” What’s your analysis of the idea the Blues may trade Kevin Shattenkirk? “You trade Kevin Shattenkirk, you’re missing a heck of a hockey player and a great person. He’s a real positive influence with the guys around the room. The good players like to play with Shattenkirk. That part of it…there’s no doubt you’re going to miss a really dynamic player. But the Blues have to manage their salary cap and their roster…Doug Armstrong is on the phone with managers all the time. He’s not going to give Shattenkirk away for free…because if you feel this is a team that can challenge for a Stanley Cup…you’re a better team with Kevin Shattenkirk than (a draft pick and prospect). The only way I see (him being traded is if he gets signed to a new contract, then traded). But no one knows what the cap figure is going to be next year. There’s only a few teams out there I’d imagine he’d go to. He’s an East Coast kid. I think this is a lot more difficult to do than people realize.”
