Fox Sports Midwest Blues color commentator Darren Pang joined The Press Box to discuss a number of topics surrounding the Blues’ improved play under recently-promoted head coach Mike Yeo. Read some excerpts and listen to the full interview below: On the Blues having back-to-back shutouts on consecutive nights for the first time in franchise history: “That’s an incredible testament…obviously this team has the wherewithal to defend. They’ve got the corps group of players that went to the conference final last year…so it’s not like they didn’t have that in them. They’re defending the front of the net a lot better than before. A couple little, subtle changes…not getting beat to the front of the net, a little less man on man, a little bit more structure and collapsing and swarming puck carriers.” On the improved goaltending of late: “I’m really impressed with the way they’re defending but obviously the goaltending has been awesome as well. Let’s face, it every systems going to be a heck of a lot better when your goaltender is stopping pucks.” How do you think Martin Brodeur working with Jake Allen has been? “I think it’s been great. The biggest adjustment is there was going to be different terminology. What I see is structure. I see more patience in net. Less sliding, more attention to detail. Marty’s eye and instant analysis is spectacular. Anything from how you’re getting set on a face-off in the defensive zone, where your positioning is, is your stick on the ice, is your hands to the right place, are you worried about your equipment. Jake Allen is completely focused on the fundamentals…and he wasn’t before. Marty has a way about him. When he says something, you’re going to flat-out listen to what he’s going to say. I think it’s important for the fans to know Brodeur’s future is in management…He didn’t have to do this, but he thought he could help. He jumps in here and you see an automatic effect.” “This is not something terrible to say about Jim Corsi…He’s a great man…but I think there’s just a different eye the goaltenders needed…because they clearly weren’t playing as well as they could play.”
