Today's message, by Pastor Sean Wood, is entitled "Seeking God and Summits". God's desire is that all of us live in close relationship with Him. The Westminster Shorter Catechism states: "The purpose of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." It is the purpose of our lives to glorify God and enjoy Him for eternity. Today, Pastor Sean speaks to us about God and mountains, and one mountain in particular. Notice, that many men encountered God on mountains in the Bible. Some very prominent events happened in the Old Testament between God and men on mountains. What is it with God and mountains? This is a question Pastor Sean asked himself, and as he pondered the question he realised there were a few things about mountains that are different. For one, the atmosphere is different - the air is cleaner. There is also a lack of people and a lack of distractions. There is nothing of the familiar, we leave all of that behind when we climb a mountain. We so often talk about the fact that we walk up mountains, but we forget about the fact that the Bible says that God descended onto the mountain, He meets us on mountains. Two examples from Scripture of men who met God on mountains are Abraham and Moses. Pastor Sean will elaborate on these examples in his message. Too often, just like the Israelites in the wilderness, we are happy to dwell at the bottom of the mountain instead of climbing it to meet with God and worship Him. But, God has removed the exclusion zone, everyone has been offered the invitation to meet with Him. Not only does God choose to meet us on the mountain, but He has made it all possible for us to do so, without any effort from us.
