Cardinals Outfielder Stephen Piscotty Chats with “The Writers’ Block”

Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty joined The Writers’ Block on Thursday despite injuring his back late in Wednesday’s extra-innings lost to the Royals. Read a couple excerpts and listen to the interview below. How did you end up with Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” as your walk-up music? “Good question. It’s by far and away my favorite movie. (Top Gun) is far and away my favorite movie. I like to watch it before each season. It gets me fired up. I figured it’d be a great song to use.” Do you look at your buddy Randal Grichuk as your “Goose?” “I’m not sure if it plays out quite like that. But maybe. There could be something there.” On learning to not necessarily catch every foul ball even if it’s catch-able: “This happened to me in the Minor Leagues in AAA. I dove head first in foul territory…made the catch. I tried to get up and throw a runner out at home, but he ended up scoring. It was late in the game and that ended up being the winning run. I spoke (with our minor league director) and he told me…if I ever was in the Big Leagues to not make that catch. I remembered that. It’s a pretty rare play. But then I ran into that situation last night. I knew if I dove and caught it, the runner on third would’ve scored. I tried to run to the ball and tried to block it…but it was fair.”
