Mizzou’s Barry Odom talks Florida loss, says Lock must not “press too much”

.and look ahead to Saturday’s Homecoming Game against Middle Tennessee. Read a couple excerpts and listen to the full interview below: On how Michael Scherer moving to the weakside linebacker role and playing well: “From a maturity standpoint and competitive standpoint, he could go play (all 11 spots on defense because of his experience). It was a good move for us. We played much better defensively, especially the first three quarters and early on (in the fourth).” On the impressive performances lately by freshman RB Damarea Crockett: “I think he continues to improve. He runs with decent pad level. But he’s not afraid to put his foot in the ground and run north and south and I think we’re going to need more of that (as the season continues).” On Drew Lock’s and the receivers’ struggles: “There’s been glimpses of it this year that we’ve played well. But we’ve got to put it all together. We didn’t play well at all in either of those departments on Saturday. We need improvement. We’ve got to do a better job of coaching them. And then they need to go execute.” What does Lock have to do to improve? “He’s got to make sure he’s not pressing too much. I think he’s been trying to do too much. A couple times…it looked like errant throws…but the receivers weren’t getting quite to the depth they needed to. It all works together. Ten guys have got to be playing well for the QB to have a chance. The quarterback probably gets way too much praise…and way too much criticism. Absolutely he’d like to have some throws back…but there’s more (factors during a play that go into some of those bad throws).”
