Happy Birthday iTunes (http://entertainment.time.com/2013/04/28/happy-10th-birthday-itunes/) April 29, 2003 welcomed the birth of iTunes and it revolutionized the manner in which the music industry shares and promotes its product, the way consumers buy their beloved songs, and bridged the gap from stationary to mobile availability of music. In a short five year span, iTunes became America’s #1 music retailer and has yet to look in the rearview mirror. With the launch of the iTunes store, consumers had a quick and easy way to purchase music, music labels were offered a way to continue profiting through the digital revolution, and artists grew substantial exposure through the platform. Subsequently, record stores and music chains didn’t fare so well. Apple’s groundbreaking online marketplace would eventually spawn a series of alternative platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, I Heart Radio, and Pandora. In Ford’s case, the work is ongoing and is continually developing the automobile experience through the collection and analysis of big data. Through smartphone apps, on-board services, and built-in diagnostic systems, Ford is finding a way to leverage data so that they can built a safe, luxurious, and technologically sound vehicle.
