It's Mardi Gras week down in New Orleans. Fat Tuesday is on March 4th. It's a bit late this year. Mardi Gras is usually towards the end of February. But since it's occuring this week, I want to talk about Santeria. Santeria is so prevelant in the Luisianna Delta. Of course Fat Tuesday is connected to Catholicism - it being a bash before the self-sacrifice of Lent. And Santeria also has some connections to Catholicism. We're going to explore all that. Also, we'll look at what it's like to become initiated into Santeria. Then we'll talk New Orleans' most prominent Voodoo Priestess, Marie Lavaue. But, another thing is happening this week - The ancient Romans celebrated the Festival of Isis on March the fifth. Isis was of course an Egyptian Goddess, but the Romans loved her too! I hope you enjoy the show!
