Healing Childhood Trauma Through Doll Making with Joy First

The trauma and abuse that we experience as children can, and often does leave lasting impacts on us as adults. It can appear as anxiety, PTSD and depression. It might lead to  issues regulating emotion or cause disassociation, along other issues. Today’s guest, Joy First, has used doll making to heal from the sexual abuse she experienced as a child. She joins host Jade Iseri-Ramos to talk about how making the dolls helped Joy find authentic self.

Joy First will be showcasing her dolls and telling her story next Thursday, September 7th at the Goodman Community Center from 6pm to 8pm.  You can learn more here. She is also offering a dolling making class for those interested in trauma dolls.
