First up on today’s rural Wisconsin check-in show, journalist Dan Kaufman breaks down his latest piece from the New Yorker, “How Suffering Farmers May Determine Trump’s Fate.” Then, we’re joined by Liz Froehlich to learn about Routes to Roots, a new interactive event from FairShare CSA Coalition featuring twelve walking and biking tours designed to introduce participants to Wisconsin food, farms, and natural surroundings. Dan Kaufman is a Brooklyn-based journalist who was educated in Madison public schools. His articles have appeared in the New York Times and the New Yorker. He is the author of The Fall of Wisconsin: The Conservative Conquest of a Progressive Bastion and the Future of American Politics (W.W. Norton, 2018). Liv Froehlich is program coordinator at FairShare CSA Coalition. Her journey with food includes working on an organic farm in Germany, reviewing her college’s food waste system in Massachusetts, and working on an urban farm and assisting with farm classes for Tilth Alliance in Seattle.
