Hi Team need some advice. Teenage son went to the gym last nite with buddies. We told him he had to come back home to finished missed assignments and not to go to another friends house afterwards-he agreed. We had told our son to call us to let us know if he need a ride back, but he had tol us he would get a ride. 2 hours later we called him to see if a ride was needed, he said he would let us know. 3+ hours later we call again and goes to VM.-phone is dead. I call the mom who took them earlier to see if she knew where there were. She stated our son told her we would be bringing them home. I was able to track him down at a friends house, where he and his buddies Walked to, almost a mile, down a very busy street with no sidewalks. Again, the other parent thought we would be bringing home.
Backstory: he has a tendency to act like he does not need to tell us what is going on, he can take care of himself, etc.
I feel he needs to apologize to the parents that thought we would be driving home. He put himself and his buddies at risk by walking to his other friends house.
My question is this: Are we shaming him by having him apologize to the parents? I don’t want to shame. Mind you he will also receive a consequence from us for not coming home as agreed previously (he has done this a lot).
Any advice is appreciated!
