Celebrating Your Vital Vision Part 4

Here is an excerpt from a class I help earlier this year. We covered everything from how to negotiate an eyeglass or contact lens prescription and Color Therapy to the visual-vestibular connections. I led the class in The Berne Method®, helping to improve your vision and health. This unique blend of holistic vision practices was experiential, and we had some great discussions. Enjoy the show, and keep an eye out for more from this series. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com.

Hello, everyone. It’s Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to hello@drsamberene.com. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode.

Okay, I want to speak about a few other conditions and then we will go into more experience. So those of you that are suffering glaucoma, this is a problem with the fluid in the eye and you’re either not getting enough fluid transport, or there’s an impediment in the fluid. And there are some great things like coleus for Skilar, which is a herbal remedy that can bring the eye pressure down. The other thing about glaucoma is it’s important to protect the optic nerve. So you want to make sure you’re getting omega three fish oil. You’re getting bilberry, gingko, taurine, and of course, vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin. Think the rainbow diet. Also, acupuncture and cranial sacral can be very helpful. If you have cataracts, it’s really important to boost your glutathione and vitamin C. I also think that eliminating sugar from your diet is really important. And again eating as much plant based as you can. That is beneficial. There is an eye drop that you can get called ocular Med and I’ll definitely put it in the notes. It’s by a company called College pharmacy. And it has glutathione and vitamin C in it. And that can help dissolve early stages of cataracts. If you suffer floaters, this is a collagen ish issue in the gel sack of the eye. So MSM eyedrops work really well, maybe doing a liver detox. And you know adding high degrees of antioxidants, wearing blue blockers, reducing visual stress, these are some of the broad brush things that you can do to improve improve the gel sack. And then the retina because it’s made up of mostly tiny blood vessels. The key is being able to get the nutrients that you need.

03:13

And I’m going to put up this slide here. These are nutrients you these I call these. These are the nutrients you may or may not have heard of, and studies that are being done. I think this is a really important slide for you to know about. So as to Xanthine is a marine carotenoid that is super helpful at inhibiting oxidative stress. I would definitely add it to your you know I supplementation. It’s great for the immune system. It’s just a powerhouse as an antioxidant. Now this next thing I want to talk about is are you absorbing? Are you absorbing your fat soluble vitamins, vitamin A, lutein, zeaxanthin. I have lots of people who will say to me, you know I’m taking high dosages of these, but my eyes aren’t getting better. So it has to do with the gallbladder, the liver and the gallbladder not working at full strength and not producing enough bile you produce it in the liver, you store it in the gallbladder. If your bile levels are low, then you’re not going to get the benefits out of these vitamins and phytochemicals. So my advice would be to do some bile salts after a meal and this will help you absorb the fat soluble vitamins. Or at the very least, you least make sure you’re getting enough healthy fats and oils during your meal because these will absorb better If you’re adding healthy fats and oils to your diet, this is a key point that’s missed. Even in the people that are doing holistic eye care. They’re not recognizing that Bile is so important for fat soluble absorption or gingko. Super great circulation. herbal formula, not just for glaucoma. bilberry is another herbal formula really good for night vision, these are actually in my vitamin. This is a new one that’s come on the scene triphala there was a study published which says that if you take some triphala it actually can reduce computer eye strain. And now this is very interesting Triphala is and I are beta gerbe used a lot for digestion. But this is an interesting connection. And then this last one coli is for skill I has been shown to bring down eye pressure. And also you can make it into a t a compress and you can use it over your eyes. So if you’re suffering any eye circulation issue, and glaucoma is the main one by both taking it internally and using it as a compress. It’s really great to do so. Just wanted to bring that into

06:22

into view. All right, let’s pause here take a question Oh

06:38

slides okay or you will get these slides. Sorry about that. But you will get these. So what’s supposed to help with night vision would be bilberry, gingko and vitamin A absorption. So there again you have to look at your you have to look at your liver and gallbladder.

06:59

All right, I’m gonna come back to the slides.

07:10

Or you should be seeing them now. So myopia, having trouble seeing up close, it’s a fear based way of seeing. Again, you know, with myopia, the higher the prescription, the more there might be have been some energetic abuse. And it’s good to spend some of the day in non demanding and non threatening situations in some blur. This is a nice mantra that I that my patients have actually come up with. And then hyperopia that’s where the world is pushed away from you, you need magnification in order to see and the more you wear magnification lenses, the weaker your eyes become. This last point is really big. Plus lenses create kind of a flaccid experience in your ciliary muscles. That’s why you need more magnification. And the more you wear the glasses, the more you need them. So that’s interesting. And then we’ve got a astigmatism.

Oh my goodness. I’ve done a whole series of video blogs on the astigmatism. As a way the eye is twisted and the body is twisted. So and then we of course we did our Convergence Divergence situation here. I want to move to a little bit of a detox that you could do with essential oils. I’m an aroma therapist. I’ve been using aromatherapy a long time. This is an amazing heavy metal detox. First of all black human. This is an amazing immune booster. It was interesting in the whole COVID discussion when people were using ivermectin and then there was some controversy around that. We switched to black cumin as a way to get really a meek great immune health. So I think everybody can benefit from the black comb and it is a powerhouse 10 drops in an eight ounce glass of water before breakfast. And then Patchouli is great for heavy metal detox. laurel leaf is great as a lymph support and cedarwood Atlas is great on your for adrenal health and energy. A safe place to put the oils would be on the soles of your feet. So if you’re really going for a you know heavy metal detox, I would do four to six drops on the soles of the feet where you layer these three, you’re going to drink this one and I would say do that for a month. You’re gonna start to see some skin release happening and heavy metal detoxification and of course the liver rules the eyes and Chinese medicines Though it can also help clear up your eyesight. Alright, I want to touch for a minute on light and color therapy. This is another thing that we’d love to do with people. And one of the best ways to get color therapy is to go out at sunrise or sunset, and to see

10:22

to see the different colors.

10:26

By the way, somebody asked a question, any adverse reaction to black komen, I’ve never seen it, it’s really gentle for the body. So with our color therapy, one of the things to note is that it’s ancient. And it helps with things like depression and anxiety. It’s also been used in acupuncture, their acupuncturist, that actually direct color to the different acupuncture meridians, we use it in meditation. So it has both biological and physiological effects. And, you know, it speaks for itself, it’s really, really potent. I love this slide, full spectrum, vision, equals full spectrum light and color equals full spectrum of life. So that, you know, you want to get away from being in the artificial light, you want to get out into the natural light, and really experiences the colors. So one of the color practices I like to do is pretend like if you can do this in your imagination, living in the color dome, and you can visualize the different colors, bathing your whole body, or the lightest filling up your body with each color. And this is a key point that the colors you don’t like are the ones that you need for a deeper balance. And they’re going to trigger some habitual things that maybe you weren’t aware of.

And it’s very, very healing, to be able to be able to have all the colors at your disposal. And again, a way to do this is just go out in nature, like right now I’m looking out my window, I’m getting blue from the sky, I’m getting more of a different kinds of green based on how the light is, is, you know, touching the, the pine needles and you know later in the day, I’m going to see maybe more of a red or orange. We’re not going to do the meditation today. But I am going to give you a slide of colors that you can use where you look, look at each of the colors, you can do this on your screen, it’s no problem. And the thing is you want to ask yourself, what do I see? And how does it made me feel. And I want you to go through all the colors of the spectrum. And it’s again, this would be another practice that I would recommend doing. You can even do the rainbow colors session with a patch. So you cover your left eye and you look through the rainbow colors just through the right eye. This is a way for you to access the psycho emotional aspects of your vision it’s very very powerful to treat yourself with color and light every day. So in the packet that I send you, you will get the rainbow of colors and you just play it and it will give you the opportunity to use the color as a way to stimulate your vision you can even add some

13:56

you can eat you can even add some sound healing well you know cold pressed I like to do organic black seed oil to companies I like that I think are better than Whole Foods Amazon would be Stillpoint aromatics and LG botanicals. I mean if it’s what you got it’s okay you know you can also muscle test it if you want. I tend to not buy things from Amazon Whole Foods. Okay, so we’re gonna move to the probably the biggest part of our session right now, which is going to really give us some some traction. So here’s a picture. You see how the muscles are wrapped here. This is the eyelids. These are the muscles that are around the eyes. And then of course, the frontal muscles.

Somebody mentioned that and look at all these The insertions in here, so if we’ve got tightness here, it’s going to start to pull up here in the eyelids area. So as we start relaxing this area, your eyes can get more circulation and oxygenation. I mean, it’s, it’s pretty obvious, right? And our muscles are wrapped in a spiral. And when we get compressed, and we go into our survival response, the muscles tend to tighten up even more. So we’re going to, we’re going to explore this a little bit today. So I’m going to stop the screenshare for a minute. And I want to, I want to introduce a new sound to you, that we’re going to use in this area here. Okay, we’re gonna have our hands. So we’re not just going to be here, but we’re going to be this is we’re going to give us ourselves kind of a cranial sacral type of treatment. So the sound is called a jock. Okay, so for this is going to help for puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. So it’s perfect. The sound is called the Jiz I sound and you make it like this year zu z. So it sounds like this.

16:30

So I’d like everybody to try that. And I’d like you to put your hands. These are your temporal bones here, which really affect the sphenoid bone, which is affecting the eye. So I’d like you to do three of these.

16:49

And then three here. So that’s, that’s the first sound we’re going to have you do. And in this particular sound, this helps the bones, it helps the bone marrow, and it’s going to create more movement in your in your cranium, which is really, really good. Now, after we’ve done that, money give you a second sound to do, which is called the puffed Oh. And this is basically just an O sound, but you keep your mouth, you keep your lips purse, so it’s kind of like this. And you make an O sound a

17:50

2k.

17:54

So I’d like you to try three of those, and you just put your hands over your eyes while you do it.

18:27

So it’s kind of like you’re blowing a candle out. Except you’re making an O sound, which is very circular, it’s going to kind of open up everything on a circular level. What we’re going to do is have you sit in a chair and you’re going to take a baseline of your breathing and also your visual acuity. So obviously with your eyes open glasses off.

19:01

I want you to

19:06

take a look out there and get a measurement of your acuity. How blurry is it and then you close your eyes and I want you to get a baseline of your

19:21

your breathing. And with your breathing.

19:30

We have our inhale we have our exhale. Is it fast as it’s slow. You know what’s going on there in terms of your breathing. And then you’re going to start with this jock sound. You can do it at different speeds. And you’re going to do a placement

19:52

here

19:59

wherever you feel you want to put your hands because when you make the sound, it’s like a buzzing, it’s going to start to vibrate this area pretty profoundly. Okay, so you’ve got all kinds of bones here back here is the Vision Center. So you might really do a lot of jocks here or here. Okay, so that’s going to be the first part of this adventure. And three is a good, you know, is a good one, like what we did with the palm hum. And then you can go into open attention. And we talked about the importance of open attention. Just write me in the chat, if you’ve got any questions, we talked about layering. And I would say on the second part, we’re not going to have you lie down. Now, that would be optional, we’ll do it sitting up. I love changing my positioning, because that’s very important for the vestibular system. But for now

21:18

we’ll have you do the second part, sitting up. And this is where we use the puffed dose. And this is such a cool thing to do that, I want to demonstrate it because you haven’t written here. But with the puffed those, first of all, just do the movement. You start at your temples, and you do a figure eight, down your body. See how I’m doing that. And you can make the figure eight longer, you can make it shorter. And actually, sometimes what I like to do is to figure eights around my eyes. This is the infinity symbol, this is very balancing. But you’re going down the midline, all the way down all the way down, all the way down to your groins. That’s where you stop. And while you’re making this movement, you’re doing the puffed dough, so it’s like this

22:32

Oh,

22:36

so you ended the groins and then you go into open attention. All right. Now the way I would like you to do this is again, you’re going to take a baseline of how you see and what your breathing is like. And then you’re going to do the jocks. And then you’re going to go into open attention. And then you’re going to do the puffed those with the figure eight. And I’m going to talk you through each part of this. So each part of what you’re doing, I will guide you, I will guide you, like a kind of a meditation. And I’ll keep track of the time I know we’re running a little over, that’s okay. And let’s see what kind of changes happen both in your eyesight, your breathing, and how you feel. Okay, so I’ll repeat the questions one more time. And then we’ll start in. So you’re going to take you’re going to be sitting the whole time, you’re going to take a baseline of your breathing, what’s the state of your breathing, then you’re going to take us baseline on your naked eye sight looking in the distance. And then you’re going to do the jock sound, and you’re going to be manipulating your head area is you can do seven or eight of those. Then you go into open attention. And then you’re going to do the puffed o’s and you’re going to do the figure eights down the middle of your body. figure eights around your eyes. Your eyes can be closed for this. Then you go into open attention again. And then we’ll end with a second baseline of your breathing and your eyesight. Okay, so let’s begin. What I’d like you to do is first of all, I want you to look above your computer. If you wear glasses, take them off and just get a baseline on your eyesight, no judgment, just the baseline

25:00

Okay, now I want you to close your eyes and I want you to get a baseline on your breathing.

25:08

Is your breathing shallow? Is your breathing deep

25:13

Are you breathing? Slow Are you breathing fast? Is your breathing just localized in your diaphragm or are you you know have a wider range of your breath

25:30

Okay, so now with your eyes closed if you want to take your hands and put them somewhere on your head I’m not going to say where you can choose you can always look at me and I want you to do some jocks go ahead and do that right now. Let’s do about eight jocks. When you feel finished, what you can do is

26:17

go into open attention

26:22

and again like we did before just feel into your body your sensations

26:45

Okay, so we’re going to transition into the puffed o’s and the figure eights. So when you’re ready, you can either watch me or you can just go at your own speed. Start here and we’re going to start making some crossovers like figure eight while we’re doing the Paphos. You can stop at your groin

27:41

go and open attention again

27:57

Okay, so now what we’re going to do you can open your eyes and we’re going to revisit the jocks again we’re going to do it one more time. Let’s go a little deeper I really want you to kind of use different hand or you can stay on the same place as us.

29:25

All right now I want you to go into open attention again. Now notice what you sense and what you feel. Just follow that just follow where your body wants to take you. Maybe it’s a movement.

29:49

Maybe there’s a little rocking maybe there’s a little circular so we want to allow and we want I invite

30:03

and have more freedom and movement in our body Okay, so again in transition, what I’d like you to do is we’re going to again do the potatoes, this time, what I would invite you to do is some potatoes around your eyes. So let’s start in the third eye. You can do both hands together. And let’s do maybe four or five very slow figure eights around the eyes.

30:40

Oh oh

31:15

and then pause and now let’s do the figure eight down the middle of our body

31:21

oh oh

31:40

and you can enter the groins

31:44

you can put your hands wherever you’d like to. And now we’ll go into open attention again. Notice what you’re feeling what you’re sensing if your body wants to move in a certain way you feel some temperature change some tingling

32:06

just kind of notice

32:12

okay, you can slowly open your eyes and let’s take a final baseline of your your eyesight I know some people wrote in the things are a little blurry or we’ll talk about what that means. Maybe for some of you things are a little brighter and clearer and then take a baseline on your breathing the rhythm of your breathing is it slower is it faster deeper is it as localized or is it you know more from the top of your head to the bottom of your body

33:07

and then when you’re ready you can come back to our circle

33:17

and I’d like you to type in the chat a word

33:23

or a little sense like somebody says visions a little clearer clearer and twitching in the right eye that’s a release blueprint love that

33:40

brighter light had relaxed blurry calmer

33:45

felt energy moving up and down the top of my head lightheaded slower breathing

33:53

clear in the left eye

33:56

felt the tension in my head deeper breathing I don’t care if I’m blurry smile ears opened

34:10

wider peripheral vision and brighter

34:15

feeling of something in my eye felling of something in my eye okay much calmer deeper breathing more open and head eyes very relaxed

34:38

Okay, well we all had an experience. calm and centered. We have some continuum teachers here in the in the class so they know what I’m talking about. Sometimes you’ll do a dive like this and it’ll bring up some things that maybe are a little uncomfortable and that’s okay. You know, again full range

35:16

sometimes things might go a little blurrier before they get clear and that’s okay too. So keep the big picture in this. It’s definitely the potential is giving you more circulation and blood flow and relaxation and more connection to the eye body relationship.
